Sully
2/8/2009
I had a family dinner tonight. My aunt and uncle are heading to Florida for a couple of months so everyone got together for a chili dinner. Good stuff. After watching the end of the golf, we cued up 60 Minutes. They had the exclusive interview with Captain Sully and the crew of US Air Flight 1549, the one that went down in the Hudson River a few weeks ago.
I talked about this before, but the story does not get old for me. This interview did a good job in giving us a window into his thoughts during the chaos. He didn’t seem PR driven, he just told his story. He analyzed the situation. Focused on his training. And did his job. Sully saved 155 people from dying.
I got chills when they showed the reunion of the 5 crew members and the 150 passengers. I can’t imagine how strong the intensity of emotion had to be in that room. The thanks. The love. The new life. The family members with saved loved ones.
It is truly amazing that Sully was able to land the plane and everyone got out. He said in his interview that his whole life may have built up for that very moment. We don’t know how the universe works. He was the right person at the right time.
If you can watch the interview and reunion, you will feel the chills. Simply amazing.
I am flying on Tuesday to Memphis. It will be interesting to see how I feel.
