Taxes

3/30/2010

Getting ready to have your taxes done is an interesting thing. If you are an independent worker, you should keep all of your receipts. I am a bit of a pack rat as it is, so my file box is jam packed. Tonight is my night to prep for the tax man. That is a real pain, but it also provides for a quick flash of images from the previous year.

Here is what I mean:

• Airplane, hotel and gas receipts show all of the places I’ve been

• Restaurant and bar receipts show the different lunches, dinners, night outs and dates. It was an interesting year…

• Grocery receipts show my eating habits

• Clothing receipts show how much I avoid the mall (and how much I seem to like to accessorize with coats and hats)

• Christmas receipts show my choices for the people close to me

• Then there are electronics, rent, utilities, golf outings, office supplies, car repairs, and a lot of other things

The point is 2009 is flashing before me via these pieces of paper. That could be the writer in me, who knows. 2009 was a positive year in a lot of ways. 2010 is off to a good start and a lot of great things should be coming soon. And living in the moment, I guess getting ready for taxes isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.
